Alvar Aalto Bench 153B for Artek in Birch

Alvar Aalto designed Bench 153B for Artek as part of his family of practical birch furniture. This vintage example combines a compact slatted top with the characteristic bent L-leg construction.

The open seat gives the bench a light architectural quality, while the curved legs connect directly beneath the top without a separate frame. Its simple structure reflects Aalto’s approach to functional everyday furniture and carefully resolved woodworking.

Warm birch softens the clear geometry and makes the piece easy to combine with many interiors. At 72 cm wide, the bench can serve as hallway seating, a bedside piece, a low display surface or an occasional table.
